Official Visit of Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao, 13 to 16 July 2025

Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste His Excellency Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão will make an Official Visit to Singapore from 13 to 16 July 2025. This is Prime Minister Gusmão’s second Official Visit to Singapore, after his first in 2013. Prime Minister Gusmão’s visit underscores the warm and longstanding ties between Singapore and Timor-Leste. He will be accompanied by Vice Prime Minister, Minister Coordinator for Economic Affairs and Minister of Tourism and Environment Francisco Kalbuadi Lay and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Bendito dos Santos Freitas.

On 14 July 2025, after receiving a ceremonial welcome, Prime Minister Gusmão will call on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and meet Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong. Prime Minister Wong will also host Prime Minister Gusmão to an Official Lunch on the same day.

Prime Minister Gusmão will deliver the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies Distinguished Public Lecture on “Timor-Leste and ASEAN: A New Chapter in the Region’s Story” on 15 July. He will also visit Housing & Development Board (HDB), an energy-from-waste plant, and preview the soon-to-open Singapore Oceanarium.

Singapore is committed to supporting Timor-Leste’s capacity building efforts as part of its accession and integration into ASEAN. To date, over 1,100 Timorese officials have participated in courses under the Singapore Cooperation Programme and the specially customised Singapore-Timor-Leste ASEAN Readiness Support (STARS) Package.
